Establishing an Internet mortgage-trading platform, involving all mortgage industry participants, from lenders to intermediaries. The lenders' platform provides IT functionality for all processes, from underwriting, processing and completions to post-completion processes including arrears and finance.
Working with business analysts to design and specify processing systems for industry-wide development and use.
Designing and implementing policies, forms and reports. Including monitoring and setting of SLAs and the production of MIS reporting.
Specifying and designing training programmes for lenders. Reporting on and integrating compliance and legal issues.
Providing expert advice on the mortgage process for lenders and intermediaries.


Dec 97 to Mar 99 OneStop Mortgage Limited, Windsor, Berks. Head of Operations

This role focused on managing and implementing a major start up programme to establish the company's credibility in the market place. I brought my project knowledge to the line roll and encouraged the team to help provide the following:

Full operational responsibility for the setting up of UK mortgage operation for US 'Adverse' lender. Reporting directly to the US Head Office with Finance, IT, General Insurance, Processing, Call Centre, Completions, Back End service and Underwriting managerial control. Company compliance manager and representative at CML 'Working group'. Developing and implementing corporate strategy, creating and developing innovative operational solutions..

Key player in driving outstanding performance, the book reached £10m in 3 months.
Successful cost and resources management.

Designed and implemented in- house processing system. Produced systems analysis and recommendation for new processing system. Liaison with and set standards for third party back-end service provider. Managed and guided unit managers, installing MIS and key performance indicators. Introduced culture of permanent change and process improvement, taking full advantage of systems capability.. Dealing with external consultants and negotiating with third party providers. Successfully managed front and back end operation, setting standards and procedures. Recruitment and training for all areas, set up finance area. Engendered team ethic. Set up legal documentation and appointed solicitors and valuers. Company CML and MIRAS Liaison compliance office, member CML working group.

Handled negotiations for parent with both funding and IT hardware suppliers. Cost effectively managed premises and equipment.

Set up of a Processing and Completions Department, section grew from 3 to 17 staff, funding £100m

Project managing the process re-engineering of major processes, fully utilising and specifying major IT systems and process improvements. Installation of MIS and performance measurement systems. Continual Productivity gains and quality gains.

I was due to move into a systems review of the whole new lending area when I was approached by Onestop Mortgages.


March 94 to Sept 96 First Mortgage Securities, Brettenham House, London.
Operations and Underwriting Manager

Taking full operational responsibility during illness of operations director. Bringing detailed mortgage and project knowledge and successfully delivering the following:

In house processing system to support the introduction of a direct (via telephone) mortgage and insurance operation, including system specification, lending criteria, packaging process and liaison with solicitors and valuers. Maximum underwriting mandate. Liaison with lenders at director level.

Set up Processing (Packaging to Completion) Unit in Cheltenham. Set up link to administrator.

MIRAS, Life cover & Deeds Audit of existing book for sale. Creation of Lotus database to enable securitisation sale. Managing Administrators: Front and back end. Project managed the sale of Mortgage Assets - liaison with Building Society Boards.


Feb 92 to Feb 94 Skillchange Systems Ltd/ Own Consultancy Management Consultant

Responsible for successfully delivering the following:

Total quality system for a leading Life Assurance company. The company obtained BS5750.
Process definitions and procedures to support the introduction of a new computer system for a major bank. My review led to the re-specification of the impact of the new system.
Management of project team assessing the financial exposure of the Mortgage Indemnity claims for a major centralised lender. Successful negotiation of £4m award from insurer.
MIRAS, Deferred interest products & Litigation process business analysis. Building new processes and system enhancements. Developed a Computer Based Training system; highly praised by Managing Director of TSB Group.
Expert witness in a fraud trial.
Integration of purchased Assets into their administration process, including computer system use, Finance and Arrears procedures.


1987-1992 TSB Group, Mortgage Express Barnet, Middlesex

1990 - 1992 Projects/Business Analysis/Operational Development

Created, project managed and documented procedures, computer system specifications and Management Information system for the establishment of a Collections department.
Responsible for determining and drafting 'best practice' procedures for transference of operations to Glasgow. Made successful presentations to the Board to 'sell' project.








1988-1990 Completions & Underwriting Manager

Responsible for successfully setting up a Completions department (2 billion mortgage book).
Established organisation, procedures, recruitment and MIS
Project manager of major projects, involving major computer system enhancements.
Due to the success of the above, given additional responsibility for Underwriting unit, by this time had responsibility for 37 staff, with 4 supervisors.

1987-1988 Departmental Manager

I joined Mortgage Express to set up an operation to support a new mortgage product. Set procedures, forms, policy, training. Recruited staff. Made presentations to Board and clients. Due to a change in company strategy I was requested to set up a new completions department.


1981 - 1987 Nationwide Building Society, Rickmansworth and St.Albans

Assistant Manager responsible for a main office and 3 'twinned' branches, 18 staff. The decentralised structure provided me with a thorough knowledge of the mortgage industry
